The manner in which Sabbath keepers deal with the Sunday controversy make it appears that this hot issue of a national Sunday law is nothing but a quibble over a day. The Adventists especially, will walk you through the different countries where a Sunday legislation is enacted; they will tell you how many religious leaders are calling for laws to protect the “Lord’s Day“, and on and on they go.
I remember a long time ago, before I came to this new understanding on the national Sunday law, that I was discussing this very issue with a former coworker of mine.
In an attempt to prove my point I began to reel off how many countries have enacted that law, how many church leaders are expressing their displeasure at Sunday desecration – I was using the same old arguments. And you know what my coworker’s response was?
“So what!! How does that affect the price of sugar NOW!?”
I was a little jolted by that response because I can’t remember giving him what I could honestly consider a reasonable answer, or something from the Bible that will at least stir up his mind and lead him to make further inquiries. I guest he left thinking that I was brainwashed or something.
Looking back at this little discourse between myself and my co-worker I came to the understanding that if we expect to convince Sunday keepers about the validity of a national Sunday law, telling them about how many countries enacted it and how many religious leaders are calling for it will not say much to them. If you are going to tell them that Sunday enforcement will become the mark of the beast, you are going to be under pressure to prove it from the Bible on the one hand, and on the other hand, to show how will it jeopardize their relationship with Christ in the future but not in the present.
If, in your mind, you don’t see a material difference between Sunday keeping now and Sunday keeping under a national Sunday law in the future, the argument that it will become an evil institution will make no sense to a first-day observer since you are unable to establish what will make that difference.
Ever since I came around to this new perspective on end-time Bible prophecy I realize how illogical and almost laughable it is for me to tell people that they will take the mark of the beast if they continue to worship God on Sundays when the national Sunday law is being enforced. It’s when I became acquainted with the true meaning of the Sabbath that I realized what the real intention of the enemy is on this Sunday issue. It goes to show that when you want to know the real nature of a counterfeit you need to study the true.
One of the most impressive Sabbath texts I have ever read comes from the pen of Isaiah. It declares:
“If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.” Isa. 58:13, 14,(which is the right sabbath?)
Here’s how this text points out for me the real purpose behind a national Sunday law. Firstly, the Lord calls the Sabbath “my holy day”, which is to suggest that this day is to be exclusively dedicated to Him.
Secondly, the texts clearly suggest that when you refuse to do your own pleasure on God’s holy day you are actually delighting yourself in Him; you are dedicating 24 hours of quality time enjoying the presence of your Maker, whose creative works you are celebrating. (the mark of the beast)
This does not sound like something that Satan would be happy about.
And don’t expect him to be satisfied simply because a rival holy day is in place.
The problem that Satan now has is that God is still accepting the worship of Sunday keepers despite their ignorance of the Sabbath! If the Devil really hopes to break that relationship between God and all Christians, it will take more than a rival day of worship to accomplish that; he will have to introduce a new religious scheme that is designed to coerce the entire Christian community into giving up their allegiance to Christ! I put it to you that if you don’t get this, you will end up conveying this childish idea that Sunday observance will put one’s soul at risk simply because of a national Sunday law.
I am absolutely surprised (almost in shock) at the ignorance of prophecy experts about one of the most mentioned predictions in the Bible – a new religious culture of devil worship!
This end-time Sabbath/Saturday issue is going to be much more than about which day is the right day to worship God.
When we consider how desperate Satan is to supplant both the Sabbath and the God to whom it is dedicated, we aught not to be surprised at the frequency with which the Bible predicts the world’s descent into a new religious culture that reflects the very opposite of what the Sabbath is intended to achieve.
This is the new religious environment in which a national Sunday law will be enforced.
