Uganda Hoima, BOBI WINE “I have learnt that after I left our Woman MP by-election candidate Asinansi Nyakato’s last rally in Hoima yesterday, military policemen cut off the road and stopped every moving thing that was moving towards town. Once night fell, military policemen descended upon Nyakato’s supporters and mobilizers peacefully returning from the rally, and mercilessly clobbered them without any provocation.
The military was working together with police officers led by Afande Joseph Bakaleke Gwaidho (former DPC at Kampala Central Police Station) and Afande Christopher Katumba (DPC Hoima District).
Saasi Marvin, our Deputy Team Leader of the Youth Wing in charge of Western Uganda, equally did not survive the unprovoked wrath of the military men who beat him with batons on his head and back as he attempted to rejoin colleagues with whom he had travelled to the rally.
He demanded to know why they were beating him but that attracted even more severe beatings. Luckily, he survived but with bruises and wounds. We have been able to get him medical attention, and he is now recovering well.
President Museveni and his government have for long labelled People Power as a group of violent hooligans, but Hoima and elsewhere, where we have had by-elections proves otherwise.
I call upon all voters in Hoima to disregard the blatant state intimidation and exercise maximum restraint as they cast their ballot tomorrow”. Bobi wine said
