Tips on how to raise good kids,

There is a saying in Africa, it takes a Village to raise a child. As I got older, I began to understand what that really meant. Depending on your up bring and the location of it, every child is raised different. You find that your Aunties, uncles, grandparents, neighbors and friends are some how helping you raise your children. How; when they help give advice, baby sit, drop them off for practice and looking out for them, I can go on and on. I believe that at the end of the day, every parent wants to raise a good child with good manners. I would like to share some tips on how to raise good kids.

1. Love them unconditionally

A love of a parent is so deep and important because, when a child knows that they are loved, that love gets them through anything they may face in life. Don’t try to change them, just guide them. They will make mistakes along the way but they will learn from them. Those mistakes will either make them stronger or break them but regardless, always be there for them and showing them your love. This will enable them to comfortably confide in you when they have issues then running to a friend who might misled them unknowingly. As you love your children, you are also teaching them how to love others.

2. Instill the fear of God in your children.

The word of God says, “the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” When they fear God, they will be afraid to attept something that will displease Him. The earlier they build that relationship with the Lord the better for them. Teach them how to pray, read the bible with them. Attend church services, church programs and activities with them, where they will be tought to walk in the ways of the Lord.

2. Involve your children in Activity

This generation has really changed compared to the older generation. Back then, children were very active outside but today, children are always inside playing video games, watching TV or constantly on their phones. Place your children in different activity programs to avoid them from getting involved with the wrong people or groups. And this helps you track where your child is.

3. Meet your children’s friends

The word of God says that, “when you hang with a fool you become a fool, when you hang with the wise, you become wise.” People from the same feathers flock together. Parents, make the effort to meet your children’s friends, know who they hang out with because you will find that friends influence each other whether it’s bad or good. A parent will see through a good friend from a bad one, they have been around and have seen it all.

4. Instill discipline and respect

The Bible says, “foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him/her.”
Parents, your children represent you when outside your home, the first thing people will ask is, whose child is that, not even the child’s name. Begin disciplining your children from the time they understand right from wrong and they will not turn from it, as they get older. Teach them what’s right and wrong, to be friendly with others, to respect themselves and others. Teach them how to be a kind, honest person, to be a person of integrity and to have self control. Both parents have to be firm when discipline their children, stand on your word, you may feel bad but it’s for the child’s good. These are some of the things you can do to discipline your children when they misbehave, depending on the age.

A. Give them time out

B. Ground them (by taking away their privileges like computers, phones, vidio games, hanging with friends, even sport activities.)

A. Spanking them (the Bible says, “he who spares his rod[of discipline] hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines diligently and punishes him early)

5. Stay firm on your decision

If children could get away with anything with their parents, they would. Parents, stand firm on the roles and regulations in your home. Your there to teach them in the way they should go in life. The children are first tought home before at school. A child will do what he/she sees the parents do, so parents, be aware of what you do or say to or around your children.

6. Teach them to be responsible

A child’s responsiblity begins at home from the parents not the from the teachers in school. Involve your children in the household responsibilities. Give them chores (washing dishes, taking the trash out, vacuuming or swiping the floor). Making sure they lay their beds every morning, teach them to do their laundry and fold them. All those things are teaching your children to be responsible and independent even though they might not see it then, they will appreciate it later. Avoid spoiling your children with too much provision, it doesn’t prepare them for the real world.

7. Be a role models and mentor to your children

Parents are role models and mentors to their children before anybody else. Like I mentioned before, children will mimic their parents, they will not do things out of context. Children will follow your led; your behavior or how you conduct yourself with others, how you communicate with others, your mannerisms, how strong and responsible you are. Your children are observing every move you.
